We greatly appreciate the time, energy and resources our volunteers devote to serving the American Red Cross. Every single day, the Red Cross succeeds because of volunteers who selflessly choose to work together to support the critical work of this organization.

Bennett Hennessy’s hero is his sister, Claire. Claire is 7-years-old and has Type 1 Diabetes. Bennett explains how his sister has to manage what she eats and drinks and check her blood glucose by poking her finger. “I think this is brave because some kids her age are fearful of spending the night at their friends house.” He says how proud of her he is for taking care of herself and teaching their family the importance of eating healthy and exercising.

The 2011 American Red Cross Holiday Giving Catalog gives you an opportunity to do just that! Any gift you choose will capture the spirit of the season by giving help and hope when it matters most.

Help us receive even more by casting your vote online. CDW will donate $250,000 based on your vote across ten charitable organizations. It is based on public votes so we need your help in order to maximize the votes and dollars that come to the Red Cross. Voting closes on January 8, 2012. Help the Red Cross by casting your vote.We just received a care package from you and your supporters. All we can say is wow! Thank you so much for all the wonderful items that you sent to us. It really makes us smile to see that people are thinking of us and wanting to support us. We shared our box with all the handlers here, dogs too, and everyone else here on our small FOB. We wanted to make sure everyone got something. If you want to help brighten a service members day too- you can shop online for them on our Holiday Gift Catalog here. You can give Phone cards , Hygiene kits for homeless veterans and Military comfort kits.
I know that doing what you all do, you all definitely know about sacrifice from your families and other members of the service. Please tell them all thank you for everything your organization does. The last time I was deployed, we lost my brother and your organization got me home, and was so wonderful with my family. I want to thank you all for your thoughtfulness and generosity as well. Please know it's kindness like you have shown, that keeps our spirits up and makes it easier to be away from our families.
God Bless you guys and thank you again so much for thinking of us and doing so much to show your support. You all really went above and beyond on this and we will never forget it. Hope this finds you all well, and having a very merry holiday season!
I have attached a few photos so everyone can know just who they were supporting, and the people that give thanks for their kindness!
Respectfully,
MA1 Angela Watson and MWD (Military Working Dog) Cesar

Have you ever wondered what the Geneva Conventions are? The phrase is bandied about in spy and war movies and TV shows, but never really explored. The Red Cross, being the only organization sanctioned to participate in war-time crises, is in a unique position to educate the public on the Conventions and its tenets. So, with that in mind, the Loess Hills Chapter of the American Red Cross is pleased to announce this educational class: Humanity in War: Introduction to International Humanitarian Law.
